Hotel Review

Experience Belle Époque glamour at this Haussmann mansion hotel and spa, originally built for Napoléon III’s half brother, the Duc de Morny. Sitting on Avenue Gabriel in the 8th - equidistant from the Eiffel Tower, Grand Palais and Champs-Elyseés - luxury defines this heritage bolt-hole. With a 16-metre pool and two Michelin-starred restaurants, this is a stand-out contender in the luxury hotel crop. Walking in through the classic facade feels like stepping back into ornate, 19th-century Paris: a butler service, silk-clad walls and hand-selected antiques are all par for the course here. Upstairs, the suites feel more like a Haussmann-style Paris apartment than a hotel room. Bathrooms are decked in Carrara and Turquin blue marble and herringbone parquet flooring, nodding to the Napoleonic heritage of the hotel. Unusually for Paris, the hotel boasts a swimming pool large enough for laps; at 16 metres, it is the largest pool in any hotel for miles around. The pool is nestled by the chic spa, where guests can request any number of state-of-the-art treatments, with a focus on anti-ageing. For dinner, rest easy in the capable hands of acclaimed chef Jérôme Banctel, heading the two hotel restaurants; advance reservation is a must at the two Michelin-starred Le Gabriel. Head to the hotel bar for after-dinner drinks, where you will find a litany of fine wines. A regal French getaway.
