Formerly a gunpowder factory for the local mining industry, the Langdale estate has the feel of a small, country resort. Buildings blend into the natural environs of trees and streams, although their interiors have a funky, metropolitan style with bright colours, velvet sofas and retro-style chairs. The bedrooms - most a short walk from the restaurant building - are roomy with bold, modern styling, purple and charcoal colours, and bright-white bathrooms. Some of the top rooms overlook a stream from private balconies or are sexy affairs with huge bathrooms, vast beds and sometimes slipper-baths in the bedroom. There’s a large indoor pool, glamorous spa - with thermal experience - and walks from the doorstep. The all-day restaurant is bright and modern with a wide choice from steaks to pizzas. A good choice whether for a chill-out or action-packed weekend.

Why do people love staying in your hotel? With a village style layout, nestled in the heart of the Lake District, Langdale Hotel & Spa is a relaxed, luxury escape to the country. Situated on a 35 acre Estate with an abundance of history and facilities, and surrounded by the picturesque Langdale Valley, the Langdale Hotel & Spa offers more than just a hotel room.
What makes your hotel unique? The location of the Estate talks for itself. With endless access to walking, biking and running routes, along with being situated in the heart of the magnificent Langdale Valley, there is nowhere else quite like it.
What is there to do in the area or on site? Perfectly placed to explore the Lake District, guests are spoilt for choice with a range of activities. Sail down Windermere Lake, hike up one of the Langdale pikes, or relax in front of an open fire at one of the many cosy Lakeland pubs. Partnered with a variety of activity providers, we can help arrange activities for guests, and usually at a discounted rate!
How far are you from the nearest airport and do you need to hire a car? 1 hour 21 minutes from Carlisle Airport, 1 hour 54 minutes from Manchester Airport and 2 hours 17 minutes from Newcastle Airport, it would be recommended to guests to hire a car. If travelling from the UK, travelling via train to Windermere train station is also a good option and only a 20 minute car journey from the Estate. There are plenty of taxi companies to get guests to and from the hotel.
What kind of breakfast do you offer? A proper feast. From buttery pastries, to fresh and juicy fruit, or a wholesome full English, there is something to make everyone’s morning better. And, guests can even enjoy it in bed if they like.
Do you offer other meals? And can you recommend good places to eat out locally? Offering contemporary dishes, including locally sourced ingredients of the finest quality, Stove, our onsite restaurant, provides a dining experience for every occasion. Within walking distance of the hotel, if guests are looking for a wholesome Lakeland meal, Wainwrights’ Inn offers a cosy pub atmosphere and of course, serves the best pub grub. Slightly further afield, and around a 15-minute drive from the Estate, Ambleside, Grasmere and Windermere have an array of great places to eat. From traditional and cosy pubs to fine dining experiences, guests are spoilt for choice by Cumbria’s culinary talents.
Which is your most popular room, and why? Each of our rooms embody a different feel and theme, offering a unique experience to each room at Langdale. Whether guests are looking for a cosy and intimate room or a grand and luxurious suite, we have a range to choose from. However, our Ultimate Rooms tend to be the most requested as they offer the perfect, luxurious getaway location.
Do you accept children and if so, what facilities do you have for children and can you fit extra beds in your rooms? Langdale welcomes families to come and enjoy our estate with family rooms available. With a range of facilities on site such as a play park, tennis court, swimming pool, soft play area, and of course, the biggest playground of all, the great outdoors, there is plenty to keep the kids entertained.
