One of the Lake District’s classic hotels, in picturesque Borrowdale and with enviable lake and fell views, the Victorian-built Lodore Falls added a smart new spa and bedroom suites in 2018. Take your pick between the classic rooms in the main hotel - the best are front-facing with lake-views - or upgrade to the Scandi-style suites in shades of grey, with vast seating areas, king-size beds and most with decked balconies. Suites also have complimentary access to the spa with its outdoor hydrotherapy pool and range of saunas and steam rooms. Public rooms in the hotel are large and comfortable, with picture windows overlooking the lake and the stream and falls after which the hotel is named. There’s plenty of room to relax - including a long terrace - and plenty of dining choices, from modern British in the traditional restaurant to tangy flavours in the pan-Asian Mizu restaurant with its open kitchen and buzzy atmosphere. Well-placed for either hiking or gentler exploring and pottering on the lake, it also offers a grand afternoon tea for when you return.
