Hotel review

If you want one word to sum up Torre Maizza it would be immaculate - on every level, service, design, food, atmosphere, location. You will not be disappointed on any front. Our friend Rocco certainly knows how to make a luxury resort destination and he’s done it in spades here. Olga Pollizzi’s interiors manage to combine statement with simplicity; giant ceramic plates replace art works on the walls, heavy linen curtains hang on simple poles, bold zebra stripe lamps and mosaic tabletops add drama and it’s all tied together with the the 'house colour' sage green. The pavillion style restaurant Carosello is delightful, overlooking the orangery and pool and providing a perfect blend of luxury and simplicity, being so close to the sea, fish is usually the special of the day, but there’s plenty of top quality choices to suit all tastes. Enjoy a pre or post prandial drink in Bougainvillea where Carmello the bar musician provides terrific entertainment every evening, deftly including guests in his songs. It may be a bit corny but it’s guaranteed to make you feel special. The walled and colonnaded swimming pool is beautifully sheltered from the Apulian winds - lie under an arbour of vines or a smart stripped brolly, rouse yourself for a relaxed poolside lunch of pizza or pasta and then return to your lounger for the inevitable siesta. If you would prefer an outing and a little more action, the hotel will happily shuttle you to one of the private beach clubs, family or adults only. Or play a round on the 9-hole golf course landscaped amongst the thousand year old olive trees and which surrounds the hotel. The whole resort is filled with hibiscus, plumbago, bougainvillea and scented jasmine tumbling over bright white walls and normally with a backdrop of a cloudless blue sky. Heaven !! And in addition, the staff are super friendly - there when you want them and not when you don’t, smart, smiley and ever helpful.
