“A fabulous hotel on a 18th century sugar plantation. Sophisticated rooms and suites with four poster beds and all the mod cons. Three fine dining restaurants, charming spa, stunning grounds and pool. A tropical hillside setting and an iconic Caribbean atmosphere. Romantic and luxurious.”

Hotel review

Romantic and luxurious, Montpelier Plantation has 16 rooms and 2 suites with an intimate and exclusive atmosphere. Former guests include Princess Diana and nearby is the silk cotton tree where Horatio Nelson married Fanny Nisbet in 1787.

The hotel is decorated in traditional colonial style with colourful artworks. The focal point is a freshwater mosaic pool surrounded by lush palms and dominated by a 300 year old sugar mill, now the setting for a fine dining restaurant. Try Restaurant 750 for smart al fresco dining or poolside Indigo Bar & Restaurant for casual dining and superb cocktails.

The hotel is not beachfront, but transport is provided to its own private and secluded beach, with stylish cabanas, parasols, loungers and bar. You can even enjoy a picnic delivered by the hotel.

Rooms are large and airy with huge four poster beds and relaxing neutral décor. Each room has its own terrace; admire the lush greenery of the grounds with the sea in the background and spot monkeys, lizards and mocking birds. The Tamarind two-bedroom Villa has a more contemporary style with a private pool overlooking the Caribbean Sea. The hotel is family-owned and staff are friendly and attentive. Despite its relaxed vibe, there is plenty to do at Montpelier; tennis courts, spa, open air yoga or even relax in a hammock or book a catamaran for a snorkelling trip.
