Hotel review

New House Country Hotel is just a stone’s throw from the metropolitan sprawl of Cardiff and yet set in splendid rolling countryside. On arrival, the view and elevated position is just spectacular. A panorama of the vibrant Welsh capital city greets you; beyond, the sparkling waters of the Bristol Channel and the islands of Steep Holm and Flat Holm, and on the far horizon, the north Devon coastline. In front of the hotel, a large south-facing terraced outdoor seating area - including a new all-weather glass pergola - makes the most of the setting, providing the perfect spot to while away a sunny afternoon with a well chilled G&T in hand.

Step inside the ivy-clad Georgian exterior, and the delights continue. The hotel is beautifully appointed with a quiet elegance and chic country house aesthetic: stylish wallpapers and contemporary art blends seamlessly with the property’s Grade II listed period features. The hotel’s Sequoias restaurant serves up classically British dishes, with a focus on Welsh produce: Pembrokeshire crab, Caerphilly cheese, Breconshire beef and Welsh lamb all feature.

Each bedroom is individually designed and well proportioned, with wonderfully comfy beds. Be sure to request one of the city-facing rooms to wake up to that breathtaking view. The hotel is popular with wedding parties so if you're looking for a quiet stay, do request a more peaceful room away from the nuptials when booking.

New House Country Hotel

North of the Welsh capital is New House Country Hotel, a Georgian manor dripping with original period details and sprawling views of Cardiff’s skyline and the sea just beyond it. Rooms are traditional with modern elevations, straightforward cuisine is done well, and historic Caerphilly is close by.
