“Tucked into a peaceful side-street of Porto, comfort and quiet await guests in this renovated A-list mansion that combines home-feel with classical glamour. With a serene garden and heated saltwater pool, Palacete Severo offers a refined retreat for cultural enthusiasts. ”

Hotel review

From the well-worn hardwood floors, the stained-glass windows, the open hearths, comfy furniture, funky art, and chatty, personable staff, it’s easy to forget that Palacete Severo is a hotel, and slip into the sensation that you are simply staying with friends. This recent renovated A-listed building is recognised both for its heritage and its enclosed garden, and sits in quiet repose on a side-street of the busy Boavista neighbourhood. To get the most out of the gardens, there is an outdoor, heated saltwater pool surrounded by lounge chairs and centuries-old trees.

Inside the main house, little was needed to be done to improve on the original comfort of the rooms, each of which has an individual layout that reflects their past use—music room, office, drawing room, adding to the effect of staying in a home rather than a hotel. The inherent darkness of the rooms is lightened by the additions of large comfortable, white-sheeted beds, and marbled, mirrored bathrooms. A separate out-building was constructed to expand the space, and the rooms therein are more modern than the main house, though they offer the same level of comfort.

For other luxuries, there is an intimate and friendly spa offering massage treatments, a Turkish bath, and 24-hour gym. The staff make note that it is the only spa in Portugal offering the Olivier Claire cosmetic line, chosen for its focus on sustainability.  Two restaurants—Éon and Bistrô Severo—both serve a fusion of Mediterranean and European food in the original dining room, overseen by Michelin-starred chef Tiago Bonito.

Art is the second focal point of the hotel. French gallerist and new Palacete Severo owner Géraldine Banier, opened the on-site Perspective Galerie as a satellite to her Paris gallery. Throughout the hotel, works by Portuguese and Spanish painters and sculptors, are on prominent display.

Map & Location

See what they say

Why do people love staying in your hotel?  I Think that people feel like if they arrive as a guest and depart as if they have always belonged. The Palacete Severo is a place that goes beyond mere physical space, offering the chance to experience the best of Porto or unwind in its interiors full of art , as well as its gardens. It’s a place that cherishes every detail, where everything is reimagined through a contemporary perspective, embracing the energy of the present and the vision of the future

What kind of breakfast do you offer? We offer full American Breakfast “ a la Carte” . You may choose your morning “mood” as you wish

Do you offer other meals? And can you recommend good places to eat out locally?

We have two restaurants in the Hotel: The Bistro Severo & EON Restaurant

And can you recommend good places to eat out locally? The northern Portugal and Porto are very rich in gastronomy and wines. Depending on what our guests are looking for we recommend a selection that fits their desires

Which are your most popular room types, and why? We do not have a “most” popular” room type as all rooms are unique and we try to fit them in advance, to your travel purposes and expectations

What facilities do you have for children, and can you fit extra beds in your rooms ? Our hotel is not the best choice for families with children. The classified building, the restorations and the art gallery make it uncomfortable for those travelling with children…
