“Palatial splendour on the banks of the Douro. A sumptuous 18th-century construction with parquet floors, frescoes and ceiling panels, and a Hall of Mirrors. Contemporary rooms are minimalist in design and most offer fab views. A luxury choice with a spa, infinity pool, and several dining options.”

Hotel review

This recent addition to Porto’s hotel scene has received much acclaim, returning – in hotel form – one of the city’s most treasured buildings to its inhabitants. Beautifully restored public areas include a Hall of Mirrors, striking parquetry floors and sumptuously painted wall and ceiling panels. The 87 bedrooms and suites with all modern comforts are housed in a separate building and accessed through an underground passage. Beneath them is the spa, an indoor pool and a well equipped gym. Outside, a narrow, infinity edged swimming pool runs along beside the river Douro and is separated from the palace by formal gardens. Local dishes, such as Caldo Verde soup form the core of the restaurant’s menu. Enjoy the lovely views on to the river and the city beyond.

Pestana Palácio do Freixo

"The unlikely pairing of an 18th-century palace and neighbouring flour mill creates one of Porto’s most luxurious accommodation options, and offers quiet reprieve for guests seeking comfort and relaxation."
