Originally a bank, the building stays true to its roots by retaining the old safes and original tiled floors. On arrival and part of the check in procedure, you can chose how you would like your room to be fragranced - jasmine, citrus, spicey and lo and behold when you arrive upstairs the fragrance gently welcomes you as if by magic. Rooms feature king-size beds or bigger and good sound proofing, but if you like some fresh air choose one at the back. Take in the best sunset views of the Alhambra and the cathedral coupled with cocktails at the fantastic roof terrace bar, frequented not just by the residents of the hotel but a mix of the young and trendy, there's a lively vibe. Plans are also afoot for a swimming pool up here. Meantime, there's a hamman, indoor heated pool and gym in the basement.
Breakfast is excellent with a huge choice of hot, cold, fruit, cheese, Spanish sausages, mushrooms, tomatoes, eggs, yoghurt and every type of seed imaginable. There's even a special hotel tea reflecting the delicious fragrances throughout the building. Although there is a restaurant at the hotel, the choice of bars, tapas and restaurants within 5 minutes' walk is worth stretching your legs.
For a city stay, it's definitely on the money.
