Pretty, mountainous and lush by Cycladic standards, Andros is a fairly well-kept secret (the well-off Athenians who have second homes here aren’t too keen on being swamped by foreigners). At this lovely mansion hotel, you can pretend to be one of the cognoscenti. Keynotes include high-ceilinged rooms, tall windows with lace drapes and views of the sea or hills, four-posters and a large pool amid green lawns. You can’t fly to Andros, but fast ferries from Rafina take only one hour to the island port of Gavrio.
