“Stylish yet relaxed B&B with contemporary country-house furnishings and a welcoming atmosphere. Ideal for outdoors enthusiasts who want a comfortable base and knowledgeable, friendly hosts.”

Hotel review

The substantial, Victorian, slate-built house is tucked on the edge of Grasmere; close enough so shops and pubs are within easy walking distance but far enough away to escape the tourist hordes that this pretty village attracts. Friendly owners Jacky and Keith have given the house a contemporary but comfortable country feel: soft-coloured walls, plaids and big florals, large sofas and well-chosen local paintings. Apart from the suite, the six rooms aren’t large but they’re thoughtfully and stylishly furnished with handsome sleigh or brass beds, bold feature wallpapers and thick curtains while bathrooms are sleek and modern. Plus there are homemade cookies and a fat stock of Lake District books to tempt you on walks. All have good views; the rear rooms boast the best. Breakfast is geared to energetic holidaymakers; both Keith and Jacky are experienced walkers and will happily advise. Return to relax over a drink in the sun-trap garden with its unspoilt views of fields and fells.
