For all the luxury of the palazzos in central Venice, the one thing they lack is the space for the modern facilities of a five-star resort. As well as the sense of exclusivity that comes with a hotel on a private island, San Clemente Palace Kempinski also benefits from huge grounds which can host state-of-the-art amenities, from a spa and outdoor pool to tennis courts and a fitness centre. Guests do not lose out on the baroque feel of a stay in the heart of Venice either; the Renaissance building offers suites dressed in the traditional Venetian style, with a grand, red-carpeted central staircase and original tiled floor leading through the airy hotel interior. Suites are very generously sized, with bags of living space and beautiful views over the lagoon. The highlight is the San Clemente Suite, which has almost an entire wall of windows looking onto the water. Families are well-catered to here, with a free kids club and babysitting available at an additional charge. Adults can enjoy a drink at one of three on-site bars, and there are plenty of restaurants to choose from too. Don't miss out on a treatment at the luxury sauna with its sauna, Turkish bath and shower. No stone has been left unturned at this extraordinarily refined resort.
