“A Hanoi icon since its opening in 1901, this grand historic hotel promises a sophisticated fusion of French colonial-era charm and more contemporary glamour. Generous rooms & suites are housed in two wings, and guests are invited to gather in terrific bars & eateries. A timeless city landmark. ”

Hotel review

Born in 1901 as "un grand hotel" in the classic French style, the Metropole has taken to the 21st century with enthusiasm and great success. Every class of room is on offer. Even at the lower end rooms are an immaculate confection of mahogany, teak, white linens, great beds and generous bathrooms. The public areas are a stylish theatre – away from Hanoi’s mad rush; a quiet garden restaurant and bar in the bamboo colonial style, a pool, shops selling irresistible pastries and deli foods, smart restaurants for smart dining, and on the outside a French street café, with staff who are genuinely keen to make the weary survivor of Vietnam’s travel scene welcome and comfortable. No synthetic niceness here. There are a small number of hotels around the world that are worth a detour just to visit. The Metropole is one of them.
