“This charming hotel is located in a colonial-era property in Ouro Preto, Brazil. Suites are bright and airy with heritage features and antique furnishings; book a luxury suite for a four-poster bed and a private balcony. Dine at the gourmet restaurant after a dip in the rooftop pool. A stylish stay.”

Hotel review

Ouro Preto has become an increasingly popular destination for visitors to Brazil; rising in significance in the Gold-Rush era, the town centre now boasts beautifully preserved colonial architecture and endless jewellery shops brimming with precious stones. Solar do Rosário occupies a privileged location in the centre of town, sitting opposite the landmark Rosário dos Pretos church. The hotel itself is also housed in a colonial-era property with a charming interior patio and a series of verandahs. Inside, local artefacts adorn the walls, and a dramatic staircase leads to the traditionally dressed suites. Guests can choose from budget or deluxe rooms; both feature comfortable beds, wooden floors and heritage features, but the best rooms are more generously sized and have traditional balconies with wooden doors. Upstairs on the roof, there is an indoor and outdoor pool and terrace, ideal for lazy, sunny afternoons. Pop into the hotel restaurant for dinner and sample classic Brazilian cuisine accompanied by great wines. An elegant and stately hotel.
