“Set on the seafront in Freshwater Bay, this stylish hotel oozes coastal charm. Light and airy rooms are decorated in subtle shades of turquoise and green, creating a chic vibe. There's a restaurant serving locally sourced food, a welcoming bar, and spectacular views all around. A relaxing retreat.”

Hotel review

With spectacular sea views, guests staying at The Albion could be mistaken for thinking they are on board a ship. Instead, this is just part of staying at this recently renovated hotel in Freshwater Bay on the Isle of Wight.

Bedrooms and suites (35 with sea views) are light and airy with seascape paintings, comfortable seating areas and sumptuous beds to sink into at night, while listening to waves lapping at the shore. Step out of the bedrooms onto the large shared terrace with comfortable sun loungers and 180-degree sea views. The beautifully-tiled bathrooms are indulgent with roll-top baths (complete with pampering bath salts) and Elemis products, including a relaxing pillow spray. Everything has been thought of – fresh milk is in the minibar, macaroons and truffles are found on bedside tables, along with tote bags and beach towels. Sea views extend to the restaurant, where the food – largely sourced from the island – is both eye-catching and delicious. From Isle of Wight Wagyu beef carpaccio to melt-in-the-mouth cheese soufflé, fresh fish and imaginative puddings such as the spectacular Peach Melba, there’s plenty to choose from.

Venture outside and it’s straight onto the beach – or up to the coastal path leading to Tennyson Down and beyond to the Needles. It’s equally tempting, however, to relax in The Albion’s Library with its books and board games, and a cup of tea or cocktail. As a reminder of the hotel’s 300-year history, open a flap in the Library wall to reveal some of the original building work. Travelling to Freshwater is made even easier with the hotel providing transfers, in a minibus or black taxi, to and from the ferry in Yarmouth.
