Close to Blenheim Palace, as well as Oxford itself, The Bell is a friendly nine-bedroom countryside bolt-hole in the rural Oxfordshire village of Hampton Poyle. The exterior is that of a traditional country pub and inside guests are met with a buzzing, open kitchen and relaxed restaurant. The menu makes the most of The Bell’s wood-burning oven, while one of the chef’s specialities is an impressive flambéed beef called ‘The Gallows’ which, as an Alpine favourite, is a nod to the owner’s links with Verbier. The nine bedrooms, split between the main building and a picturesque adjacent cottage, vary both in terms of size and headspace. Walk-in showers or roll-top baths feature throughout, as does Egyptian cotton bedding. Explore the area on one of three recommended circular walks from The Bell’s front door. This is a popular spot for both its restaurant and rooms; rightly so.
