“Quirky prison-themed B&B that’s both stylish and comfortable with 10 ‘cells’ and nearby sister wine bar, The Black Boy. City bolt hole for couples who want something a bit different or solo travellers after solitary confinement! Children are welcome. ”

Hotel review

Being locked up in a cell overnight isn’t everyone’s idea of fun however this B&B is wonderfully quirky and well worth a visit. Genuine mug shots of crooks and criminals line the stairway walls, inmates’ notes or concrete-look wallpaper cover the cell walls and each room has a heavy duty prison door from Clerkenwell gaol circa 1890 and wrought iron bed. Children will love the secret stowaway sleeping cubicle under the eaves adjacent to cell 10. In keeping with the theme, breakfast is served up on tin plates with matching mugs. Next door is the characterful Black Boy pub, under the same ownership and chockfull of vintage finds - old enamel signs, taxidermy, vintage books, collections of keys and ‘cabinet of poisons’ (alternatives to the Electric Chair). In the same group there’s also The Black Bottle wine bar.
