Owned by Finnish Olympic golf medallist Samppa Lajunen, Hotel Maria was previously home to four historic buildings including military offices dating from 1885 and is protected by The Finnish Heritage Agency. Hotel Maria had its grand opening in 2024 and although it has retained some of its period elements, contemporary design can be seen in its modern facilities, lighting and artworks. Found in the Kruununhaka district close to the city, Hotel Maria has 117 spacious rooms with 38 luxurious suites, two top class restaurants, a glamorous bar, ballroom, chapel, and huge state-of-the-art spa as well as a boutique featuring Finnish designers
The rooms are spacious and well equipped, with fresh neutral décor and comfortable furnishings. The marble bathroom comes with gold coloured taps, a stylish bath and gorgeous Bulgari toiletries. Period glamour is enhanced by touches such the IPad on the wall controlling heat and light. The luxurious suites are all unique. Some have saunas, steam rooms, terraces and hot tubs. Dining here is a real treat. The brasserie style Garden Terrace serves Nordic and international dishes and the hotel’s signature restaurant Lilja, is inspired by both Finnish and French cuisine. The Bar Maria is an intimate spot with an ice drop design chandelier. Enjoy cocktails or champagne and caviar with the tinkling of a grand piano in the background.
The beautiful spa surrounds a restful green atrium, with sauna, steam room and hot and cold plunge pools. The Hotel Maria is the first in the Nordics to have a wellness concierge to provide personalised programmes including specially tailored jet lag treatments and nutritional advice, a weekly Run Club, and in-suite spa treatments.
