Sitting on the crossroads of streets named after two explorers, Roberto Ivens and Hermenegildo Capelo, the hotel has taken its cue from its location - with no holds barred. Enter the lobby and discover a tropicana meets maximalist interiors fantasy, with bell boys in safari shorts and shirts, and the recently refurbished destination bar and restaurant realised by Spanish interior designer Lázaro Rosa-Violán. Admittedly it feels slightly out of step with the decidedly classic rooms, which feel like they're waiting for a redesign of their own. But the fantastic location, high-end gastronomy and extraordinary dining setting (including an Instagrammable toilet - say no more) make this stay worthwhile.
