“A luxurious hotel located in the heart of the city. Beautifully renovated rooms keep the traditional style yet a splash of contemporary flare has been added. The two restaurants are equally stylish and the bar produces some top-notch cocktails. The service is slick and the positioning perfect.”

Hotel Review

Created from a row of elegant Georgian townhouses, Kimpton Charlotte Square oozes class. A lobby replete with antiques, curios and quirky contemporary art sets the traditional-meets-modern tone and leads into an oasis-like glass-domed courtyard that evokes Victorian palm houses (and can be almost uncomfortably warm on a sunny day). Beyond, 13 rooms in the 'Wee Hoose' wing are choice, decorated in shades of grey, cream and caramel, with velvet and cashmere throws and leather upholstery. Perks include your own collection of classic vinyl LPs, yoga mats, Scottish-themed treats and top quality coffees for your in-room coffeemaker. The same colourways and treats extend throughout the Kimpton's other rooms and suites – and we like the dash of colour added by bright red bedside phones that, despite their retro looks, outdo Alexa when it comes to meeting your every need at the press of a button. Back to the public areas: breakfast is served in the conservatory-like Garden, which doubles as an all-day brasserie serving coffee, cocktails, snacks and afternoon tea. Levantine-themed BABA is the hotel's main restaurant, serving a Mediterranean-fusion menu, while the clubby Map Room bar is a cosy place for after-dinner drinks. The gym and spa (tucked beneath the 'Wee Hoose') offers a pool, sauna and a fully equipped gym. All this, and the sights, shopping and nightlife of Edinburgh on your doorstep – what else do you need?

The Principal Charlotte Square

An old hotel in a classy city centre location reinvented in mid-century modern Soho House-style chic. With a darkly dramatic reception area, stylised ‘Levantine’ restaurant and characterful, deeply comfortable bedrooms, it’s an Instagram-ready example of a new generation of corporate hotels
