An ideal base from which to explore the picturesque Cotswolds, this hotel offers luxurious accommodation in an 18th-century townhouse that retains much of its olde-worlde charm – think original fireplaces and tall sash windows. The main house boasts 13 guest rooms, with a further five in a converted cottage across a well-groomed country garden. Rooms mix past and present with dark wood beds and antique furniture, plush fabrics and modern artwork. Many rooms boast high-spec new bathrooms with quirky touches, such as a fibreglass statue of Zeus in a walk-in rainfall shower, or a free-standing bath in the bedroom. The restaurant, a bustling magnet for locals and guests, channels a relaxed country vibe with oak beams and inglenook fireplace, and offers excellent seasonal fare from local ingredients. Relax beforehand with a gin and tonic made with Cotswolds Dry Gin at the hotel bar, a quiet haven whose centrepiece is a bay window fitted with an elegant curved leather banquette. Offering friendly and efficient service, The King’s Hotel offers a luxurious escape from the city.
