Hotel Review
It’s all about modern lavishness at the new US sister hotel to London’s The Connaught, Claridge’s and The Berkeley. Design-wise, it’s a breezy blend of old-fashioned opulence and youthful California coastal cool. It’s set in a magnificent Spanish heritage building minutes from Rodeo Drive that screams Golden-Age glamour. In contrast, the contemporary rooms and suites are filled with Mid-century modern-style furniture and artwork by local Los Angeles artists. They all have outside space, too. You won’t believe the Hollywood Hills views from the rooftop pool or the size of the spa – the biggest in the city at 20,000 square feet including 17 treatment rooms. Eating a Mediterranean lunch or dinner outside at The Terrace feels like you’re in a European garden, with little tables set on gravel amid herb-filled terracotta pots. If it’s somewhere for a clandestine date, you’ll appreciate the cosy and dark gentleman’s club-style bar although the thousands of cigars on offer may not be quite what you had in mind.
