Hotel review

Looking for a chic grown-up vibe in the heart of Mayfair? Well we think that the brand new offering from Iconic Luxury Hotels (Chewton Glen and Cliveden are in the same stable) will satisfy any such whim! Indeed any fan of those two heavyweights will be booking straight in if they're heading to London. This is a stunning conversion of fifteen classic townhouses on Half Moon Street. As soon as you enter the building, you can tell you’re in for something special…not least because there’s a sparkly crystal peacock (with real tail feathers) waiting to greet you in reception. Rooms are beautifully done, even the entry level cabins come with top-notch beds and linens and some even feature a full bathtub. Interiors throughout are sultry and sexy, with rich fabrics and beautiful parquet flooring, and indulgent marble bathrooms (the best with both huge walk-in rain showers and enormous tubs). Though there’s a touch of whimsy here too — the aim was to evoke something of the Alice in Wonderland alongside the decadence of Oscar Wilde. So you’ll find an eclectic, personally curated art collection, fox door knockers on every room (the fox is the property’s emblem) and statement light fittings that will wow. Another bonus that you’d don’t usually find in a five star luxury establishment is a free minibar, but at the Mayfair Townhouse feel free to indulge…it’s all included! For dining, there’s an all day menu that can pretty well be taken wherever you wish, whether that’s in the bar, your room, or downstairs in The Lower Ground, a space that’s perfect if you want somewhere a little quieter than the Dandy Bar. The Dandy Bar is the hub of Mayfair Townhouse. It’s an atmospheric venue with low mirrored ceiling and a sophisticated vibe, where the mixologists really know how to work their magic. If your favourite cocktail isn’t on the menu, just ask; or why not tell them the type of tipple you like and watch them create an original! Last and certainly not least, the staff here have been highly trained (what else would you expect from a hotel of this pedigree?); they’ll be as hands on or as hands off as you like. The key ethos here is that they want you to feel like you’re in your own home…albeit a seriously smart one right in the heart of London! So if it’s smart, sexy and happening you’re looking for, you’ve come to the right place.
