Hotel Review
Set in the market town of Odiham in Hampshire, The Red Lion is an historic yet stylish pub offering excellent food, service and modern rooms with an impressive attention to detail. Families are well-catered for thanks to its two inter-connecting rooms; with kids kept entertained by thoughtful touches such as chocolate, board games, colouring pencils and stickers. Many hotels market themselves as family friendly, but these in-room extras genuinely go the extra mile. Dogs are equally as welcome. The interior of the bedrooms is chic, comfortable and spotlessly-clean; featuring ESPA toiletries, retro radios, an interesting selection of books and black-out blinds.
Downstairs the pub serves a menu of classic British dishes alongside more ‘adventurous’ choices – with ingredients locally-sourced as much as possible - and the service is terrific.
The Red Lion is a great base for walkers; with footpaths and bridleways striking out in every direction. National Trust properties, The Vyne and Hinton Ampner, and kids’ paradise Wellington Country Park are all nearby. And for wine lovers, the pub offers a ‘Pinot and Pyjamas’ break in collaboration with nearby Penn Croft Vineyard.

Why do people love staying in your hotel? The combination of comfortable accommodations, charming ambiance, quality service, and a convenient location near both the motorway and local attractions contributes to the positive guest experience at The Red Lion.
What is there to do in the area? There is plenty to do and see, depending on your hobbies and desires. There are lots of walking and cycling routes to enjoy, or head out onto the waterways of the Basingstoke Canal. Enjoy the high street’s shops and cafes, walk over to Newlyn’s Farm Shop & Café (with their own cookery school). Our guests tend to be lovers of good food and drinks, and enjoy a local producer, therefore popular trips include venturing out to nearby villages for a gin tour with Gorilla Spirits (Greywell), a wine tour with Penn Croft Vineyard (Crondall), a brewery tour at Hogsback Brewery (Tongham) and so much more.
What kind of breakfast do you offer? The team serves a fresh continental breakfast midweek, Mon – Fri, which includes a selection of breads for toasting (GF bread is available upon request), a range of jams and spreads, freshly baked pastries and pain au chocolat, yoghurts, cereals (GF options available on request), a wide selection of coffees, teas, milks and juices. Sat and Sun cooked options are also available.
Do you offer other meals? And can you recommend good places to eat out locally? Absolutely, we serve lunch, dinner, and bar snacks 7 days a week, plus we have a great selection of gluten free dishes. There are plentiful dining options available near by and on the high street. Our favourites include La Creperie, El Costellos here on the high street, the Wild Carrot at Four Seasons Hotel in Dogmersfield, and The Cellar Door café at Penn Croft Vineyard.
Which are your most popular room types, and why? We have 7 rooms and so do not have different categories, however included in these are two sets of interconnecting rooms (which can be sold individually or a set of rooms), which are popular for families or friends travelling together.
What facilities do you have for children and can you fit extra beds
in your rooms ? While The Red Lion may not have specific facilities exclusively for children, our comfortable and welcoming rooms can accommodate families. The rooms are cosy in size, and therefore we do not have space for extra beds, however we can indeed provide travel cots for younger children. We do recommend contacting our staff in advance, or advising at the time of booking of children’s ages so that we can provide age-relevant toys, books and snacks for our younger travellers n the room, ready for their arrival.
