A 45-minute drive from the bustling tourist town of Rishikesh, The Roseate, Ganges' extensive wellness programmes and focus on Ayurvedic techniques, will appeal to travelling yogis, and with plenty of outdoor activities (white water rafting, bungee jumping, and trekking to name a few) it’s also popular with outdoor enthusiasts. It’s slick and contemporary inside and out with rooms decorated in every shade of grey. Aside from the in-room fireplace, there’s little ‘cottagey’ about The Roseate’s 16 charcoal suites. Bijoux, but smartly designed, they each open out onto a private terrace. A good-sized bathtub gazes out across a wall of forest beyond; a mirror-like infinity pool, the Ganges below. The live kitchen at Chidya Ghar serves up a contemporary menu, with a modern twist on local Kumaoni classics, plus some European favourites. The Pahari style chicken has some spice without being overbearing. For breakfast choose from eggs to order, millet pancakes, and plenty of Indian preparations. Ideal for those looking for a little bit of luxury less than an hour from the spiritual hub and yogi mecca of Rishikesh.
