Set on the Suffolk coast, just a short walk from the beach, The Ship at Dunwich cleverly combines coastal decor with country chic whilst retaining many of the pub’s original features. The majority of the bedrooms are situated above the pub and others can be found in outbuildings. While the rooms vary in size, all are tastefully decorated with light, bright colours, block print furnishings and tea and coffee making facilities. Bathrooms have luxurious Bramley products, family rooms are extremely spacious and dogs are welcome, too – they even have their own menu. Downstairs, the pub is cosy and made up of smaller rooms, including a conservatory which doubles up as a small dining room and another with bold prints of pelicans. With log fires in winter and a large garden – complete with outdoor bar – for warmer, sunnier days, guests can enjoy a stay throughout the year. Once a thriving medieval port, visitors to Dunwich today can enjoy walking on the heath and along the coast to Walberswick. There’s even a pop-up sauna by the beach, perfect after a dip in the North Sea.

This is a terrific place to come for a lazy weekend by the sea – a cosy pub with decent food and a peaceful end-of-the-road location in Dunwich, which was once medieval England’s largest port but is now a tiny village of less than 100 souls.
