This popular historic pub has been renovated to a high standard. From the outside it looks like the quintessential mediaeval inn. Step inside to find a snug, chalet-style vibe with raw beams, exposed brick walls, leather banquettes and high backed benches strewn with shaggy sheepskin rugs and tweed cushions. The management has gone to great lengths to make people - and their pets - feel welcome with details such as communal reading glasses, dog biscuits, sun screen and cucumber-flavoured water, all for guests’ use. Delicious award-winning food and labelled 'Best Pub' in 2015 by GQ Food & Drink. They buy in fish and game from local suppliers and friends, creating interesting menus which deliver authentic, hearty British meals. Smart, generously-proportioned rooms in the old stables behind the pub are named after wildlife - partridge, rabbit, snipe etc. Dark floorboards and walls offset a wooden kingsize four-poster bed and simple furnishings such as canvas trunks and bare bulb pendant lighting. A modern bathroom houses an inviting copper bath tub and stone sink complete with handmade soap.
