Hotel review

With 28 rooms, you might assume that the Villa Le Barone lacks character and personality. However, you’d be wrong: a complimentary drink and fresh flowers, along with a written greeting from the owners, await you on arrival. This 14th century Tuscan villa is comprised of several ivy-covered buildings. Initially constructed as a citadel in the hills between Siena and Florence, the views from the villa over the Chianti countryside are spectacular – even by Tuscany’s impeccable standards. Affable owners Count and Countess Aloisi de Larderel live on the premises, and warmly greet guests whenever they cross paths. Many of the bare-beamed communal rooms are furnished with the Count and Countess’s family collections, creating an authentic feel not usually associated with hotels of this size. The Della Robbia/ de Larderel family tree, dating back to the 18th century, takes pride of place in the entrance hall. There are expansive well-kept grounds and beautiful gardens to explore and enjoy in the day. In the evening in summer, dinner is served on the terrace by candlelight, where the setting sun and views of the surrounding countryside create a relaxed and romantic ambience. At other times of the year, dinner is served in the charming restaurant. The quality of the service and food is well above average. An infinity heated salt water pool for the 2017 season, covered with Travertine marble!
