About Antiparos
Set just across the water from lively Paros, the little island of Antiparos is a wonderful hideaway for laid-back travellers seeking to embrace a slower way of living. One of the most charming islands in the Cyclades, this pint-sized gem boasts some wonderful accommodation options, well-suited to couples, friends and families. Simple and understated, many of the best places to stay in Antiparos are also appealingly affordable — and tend to offer striking sea views.
The whitewashed buildings of the island’s capital — also called Antiparos — are a brilliant starting point for explorers. Expect to find narrow cobbled streets lined with some great shops, and eateries tucked behind blue-painted doors or spilling out onto the romantic squares of the old town. The 14th-century Kastro — a Venetian fortress — is well worth exploring. Don’t miss strolling down to the harbour to see fishing boats bobbing in the turquoise waters.
Venture up to the lovely Church of Agia Marina for beautiful views, or into the famed Cave of Antiparos, accessed by around 400 steps and boasting some of the oldest stone formations in Europe. The 18th-century Church of Agios Ioannis Spiliotis, at the entrance of the stalactite cave, is not to be missed. Hop across to the island of Despotiko to tour ancient archaeological ruins, or enjoy snorkelling around the sea caves. Spend your afternoons soaking up the sunshine on Soros, Fanari and Faneromeni beaches, or on the terraces of the best places to stay in Antiparos!
