About Port Appin

A picturesque fishing village on the banks of Loch Linnhe, Port Appin is a wonderful place to go for a romantic break or family holiday. Popular with walkers, cyclists and horse riders, it is surrounded by beautiful countryside and boasts some excellent accommodation options from great value cottages to luxury hotels with award winning dining. The area has a fascinating history, and there are many ruins and archaeological sites to explore. The ruins of Ligmor Castle, for example, are well worth visiting. The castle was built in the 16th century and was home to the Stewarts of Appin, a family who had a long association with Bonnie Prince Charlie.
Port Appin’s position on Loch Linnhe means that it is popular with sailors, kayakers and swimmers, as well as walkers and cyclists. There are several trails to follow through the hills surrounding the village, as well as along the loch itself. If you’re feeling particularly adventurous, you can even take a boat to Lismore Island, which has its own ruined castle!
