About Cabourg

A seaside resort town close to Deauville on the Côte Fleurie, Cabourg is a perfect base for a relaxed coastal break in Normandy. Brimming with Belle Epoque villas and Anglo-Norman mansions, the town's two-mile stretch of idyllic golden sand is fringed by a long waterfront promenade studded with cafés and eateries. Accommodation options include simple B&Bs as well as impressive heritage hotels. Some of the best places to stay in Cabourg are right on the coast, but we do have a particular favourite hidden in the enchanting countryside for those dreaming of absolute tranquility.

Once a humble fishing village, Cabourg grew popular in the 19th Century, with ornate mansions, chic seafood restaurants and a buzzing casino luring crowds from Paris. The beach is brilliant for sun-bathing, sandcastle-building, sailing, wind-surfing and scenic strolls. You’ll find ice cream and delectable fresh fare on the promenade, which is also lovely for leisurely walks. Do take the time to admire the town’s heritage buildings on foot, and to pop into hip boutiques and bars. History buffs will be fascinated by Dives-sur-Mer, just across the river — the port from which William the Conqueror launched his expedition in 1066.

Venture inland to visit little villages and old mills tucked amidst rolling hills, verdant woodland and apple orchards. The Normandy Cider Route offers excellent tours and tastings, and you’ll find ample opportunity to go fishing, walking, horse riding and cycling. The best places to stay in Cabourg fill up fast during the summer holidays, so book your trip well in advance!
