About Flores

Just east of Komodo Island in the Lesser Sunda Islands, Flores is a beautiful destination for keen divers, snorkellers and beach-goers. Famed for its beauty and its proximity to the Komodo National Park, Flores Island has long attracted holidaymakers from Indonesia and beyond. Whether you choose to stay on this fascinating island, or on one of its tiny tropical neighbours, charming thatch-roofed resorts and chic private villas await. Our pick of the best places to stay in Flores includes fun-filled spots for active families as well as intimate honeymoon hideaways.

The enormous Kelimutu Volcano dominates the Flores skyline. The site of three coloured lakes, this is a must-see for eager adventurers. Hike up the 1,639-metre-high volcano for sunrise, or cycle between the rice paddy fields of Cancar before delving into traditional Flores culture with a visit to a Manggarai village. Treks through the surrounding Wae Rebo jungles, along clifftops and past rushing waterfalls are terrific.

Flores is also the gateway to the Komodo National Park, and wildlife enthusiasts will be thrilled to see komodo dragons in their natural habitat. The tranquil waters between islands are brilliant for snorkelling and diving, with tremendous biodiversity hidden below the surface of the sea. Island-hop by boat for coastal walks and water sports galore. Wild, remote and beautiful, it is marvellously unique; book a room at one of the best places to stay in Flores to experience it for yourself!
