About Calolziocorte

Calolziocorte is a relaxed, and relaxing, choice on the very southern tip of Lake Como, in the foothills of the Bergamo Alps. It’s a great value destination, unspoilt by the busy tourism of the summer months, and perfect for visiting the Italian Lakes without breaking the bank. It’s also ideal for alpine hikers and cyclists. Accommodation options in Calolziocorte are more limited than in other centres, but the best places to stay in Calolziocorte are a rustically comfortable lot, numbering converted farmhouses, charming B&Bs, and restaurants with rooms.

In addition to the idyllic, almost alpine location, cyclists and hikers will appreciate the way this hamlet is so well set up, with the best places to stay in Calolziocorte offering great facilities and storage space for extra kit. Calolziocorte is also able to fuel the kind of appetite derived from activity and adventure in the great outdoors. One of our picks is a restaurant with rooms, where the recipes served have been refined over five generations! Calolziocorte is a good choice for sightseers looking for a quieter base: it’s only six kilometres from Lecco and Valmadrera, and close to Monte Barro too.

The Best Places to Stay in Calolziocorte

For Great Value

  • The Locanda Osteria Marascia is a small and rustically charming restaurant with rooms just a stone's throw away from Lake Como. The building is old, made of stone, and much of that is on show inside, as well as the wooden beams and tiled floors. The furnishings match beautifully: a collection of antiques. The host’s recipes have been perfected over five generations, and are authentic of the region — and breakfast is included too. Perfect for walkers and cyclists, as well as foodies, and there’s a lovely little playground.

Travel Information

  • Calolziocorte has a few local international airports: Milan’s Linate, Malpensa and Bergamo Airport are about an hour away by road, or just over an hour and a half by public transport. While Brescia-Montichiari and Verona-Villafranca are both close to hour and a half drive, or about three hours on the train via Milan.
  • If you want to hire a car, which we strongly advise if you’re staying on Lake Como and want to get out and about,  we recommend you visit our online partner, Rentalcars.
  • Lake Como has a milder climate than its surrounds, which allows for sub-tropical plants like grapevines and olive trees to grow throughout the year. In winter it does get chilly, and in summer it can be humid, but broadly speaking it has some of the best weather conditions in Europe. April through to October are the busiest months for visitors, warm and sunny, perfect for a lake break. The water of the lake even heats up during summer, and can get to 20°C come July! So if you are visiting at this time it’s worth booking as much as you can in advance.
