About Savelletri

Savelletri is a fishing port on a stretch of coastline so beautiful that it’s become a beach resort as well. Most of the coastline’s beaches are public, and many of the best places to stay in Savelletri, though extremely elegant and luxurious, are converted from masseria and farm estates, and are surprisingly affordable. If you want a beach to yourself, or easy access to the ocean, or a golf course, you’ll find plenty of accommodation to close from here. You can also find a number of extremely romantic hotel picks, and one or two very luxurious resorts, but there are also plenty of family-friendly options.

Puglia has many wonderfully converted masseria, but Savelletri’s seem to have especially picturesque locations; pretty hamlets, olive groves and sea views abound. Our Gurus’ favourites have been carefully refurbished, so that while they now offer all the mod cons, and usually an excellent restaurant serving local specialities to boot, they’ve lost little of their whitewashed charms. There are accommodation options within Savelletri itself too, along its narrow streets lined with pretty, whitewashed buildings.

To the north of its 300-berth port are cliffs topped by rows of charming old, white buildings, and to the south are rows of rocky reefs, so it’s a popular spot for divers, as well as beach lovers. Savelletri’s seafood restaurants are sure to impress with their proper Pugliese flavours, and traditional menus too. The town is a livelier choice, though all the picks on our Gurus’ list of the best places to stay in Savelletri are relatively peaceful, as well as being close to the beach.

Savelletri is a great option for anyone wanting to explore Puglia. It’s well located for visiting the traditional trulli structures of Alberobello, the beautiful white, hilltop village of Fasano, or Baroque beauty, Lecce, often referred to as the ‘Florence of the South’. But Savelletri is also a wonderful place to come to escape. However all this means that it's a very popular destination, so if you want to guarantee a room in one of the best places to stay in Savelletri during the peak summer months, you'll need to get organised and book well ahead.

The Best Places to Stay in Savelletri

For a Special Occasion

  • Historic and luxurious, the Masseria San Domenico’s original 14th century buildings were once used by the Knights of Malta, and are today much loved by the celebrity set. The contemporary version, has an 18 hole golf course, an excellent selection of places to eat and drink, a huge saltwater pool, and a luxury spa specialising in thalassotherapy treatments, in addition to the 47 sumptuously decorated rooms and suites. And it’s only about 200 metres from the sea, just outside Savelletri.

For a Beach Break

  • The Borgo Egnazia is a village of a resort in an idyllic spot, right on the coast, large enough so that some of the staff get around the resort on bikes! It has a very varied collection of 164 villas, suites and rooms, decorated in a luxuriously comfortable country chic style, with a creamy white colour scheme. The resort facilities are really impressive; there are indoor/outdoor and private pools, a large spa, tennis courts, a gym, a library and games room, gardens, a kids club and four excellent restaurants. The resort’s beach club has lots of watersports facilities too.
  • The Masseria Torre Coccaro is a carefully restored fortified farmhouse, just minutes from a long stretch of golden sand, and the sparkling sea. The square, white exterior is softened by fragrant gardens, and the rustically stylish interiors — there are 33 rooms and suites, with exposed stone walls, antique furnishings, and fine linens and silks. The hotel pool is huge and lagoon-like, though there’s a private beach club on the beach too. The Masseria also has an Aveda spa. There's a great restaurant too, charmingly housed in an old stable block, and serving organic regional cuisine.

For Romantics

  • La Peschiera is a serenely beautiful five star hotel so close to the Adriatic that you can drop your hand over the edge of the restaurant terrace and touch it. There are just 12 rooms and suites, decorated with dark wood, the palest tiles and plenty of white. As well as wonderful sea views, the restaurant is also known for its sumptuous seafood menu, and breezy, outdoorsy atmosphere. The pool is large and glamorous, and the hotel has a private beach too. It's adults only too, all of which adds up to a really romantic choice.

For a Rural Escape

  • Casale del Murgese is inland from the coastline, positioned in a beautiful, rural setting between Savelletri and Fasano. It's a converted farmhouse with spacious, and stylish rooms featuring pale stone floors, oil paintings and private terraces. The large triples easily accommodate families. The infinity pool has its own bar, and the gardens spread all around. The restaurant serves traditional Puglian cuisine. Close to everything, yet there’s nothing in the immediate vicinity.

For Affordable Luxury

  • Masseria Cimino is another beautifully converted masseria, with a wonderful atmosphere of pared back luxury. It’s easy to see in the exposed stone, pale, tiled floors, and whitewashed ceilings, and crisp, white linens of the 15 rooms and suites, and in the stylish, but welcoming breakfast room, and charming courtyards. Come evening expect plenty of candle light, and a lively hum from the restaurant terrace where superb set meals are served. When it cools down there’s a vaulted dining room and cosy, fire lit bar. And you’re right behind the 8th hole of the Championship San Domenico Golf Course.

Travel Information

  • The closest international airports to Savelletri are Brindisi Airport, which is about 40 minutes drive south along the coast from Savelletri, or about an hour and a half via public transport, or Bari Airport, which is about an hour’s drive north, or about an hour and a half by public transport.
  • If you plan to hire a car, which we would advise if you want to get out and explore further afield, we recommend you visit our online partner Rentalcars.
  • Savelletri‘s climate is Mediterranean, with hot, dry summers and mild, wet winters. Because Savelletri is beautifully positioned against a sandy coastline, most visitors are here for summer sunshine, sea and sand, so it’s most popular during June, July and August. July and August are when it’s hottest, with maximum daily averages around 30°C. If you’d like to try to avoid the crowds our Gurus recommend you look for accommodation for May or September — October is often the rainiest month of the year.
