Our pick of the best places to stay in Denbighshire includes cosy B&Bs, chic boutique spots and a Michelin-starred Georgian farmhouse perfect for foodies.

An outdoorsy traveller’s dream, Denbighshire is home to the impressive Berwyn Mountains, part of the Clwydian Range and the Dee Valley, one of Wales’ five designated Areas of Outstanding Natural Beauty. Expect heaps of hiking, cycling, horse riding and bird watching, as well as some wonderful river-bound explorations.

Rich in cultural significance and fascinating heritage landmarks, the region features some immensely appealing towns, too. Base yourself in pretty Ruthin, filled with well-preserved buildings, great eateries and excellent exhibitions at the Ruthin Craft Centre, or admire historic ruins, castles and churches at Corwen, Denbigh and Llangollen. The lovely seaside resort town of Rhyl is ideal for family days of sandcastles and sunbathing, whilst active travellers can try hiking and cycling along a portion of the epic 870-mile Wales Coast Path or 372-mile National Cycle Route 5 which snake along nearby. Prestatyn, the county’s other famous coastal town, boasts a magnificent promenade, a plethora of walking trails, and some terrific wildlife-spotting.

Whether you’re looking for challenging Berwyn Mountains climbs, keen to sink your toes into golden sands or eager to marvel at ancient fortifications and picturesque views, the best places to stay in Denbighshire promise an intimate and characterful base to make the most of the region’s many attractions. Look out, too, for the summer’s food and music festivals — and book your stay well in advance to avoid missing out!
