About Phú Quốc

A two-hour flight from the bustle of Ho Chi Minh City, Phú Quốc is Vietnam’s answer to Phuket or Ko Samui. Fringed with white sand beaches, studded with palm trees and surrounded by crystal clear waters, it’s the stuff of beach break dreams. With over half of the island coated in dense jungle and protected as a national park, Phú Quốc is also a fabulous destination for nature lovers and adventurers. Most of the best places to stay in Phú Quốc are set right by the sea, perfect for fun-filled holidays as a couple or with family and friends.

The island’s sparkling waters are home to a diverse marine ecosystem, and brilliant to discover on a snorkelling or diving trip. For still more striking dive sites, venture south to the An Thoi islands. Many hotels will be happy to arrange sea kayaking, sailing, wind surfing, stand-up paddle boarding and jet skiing excursions right on their doorstep. Challenge yourself with a spot of squid fishing, or take a guided tour to understand the process of creating Phú Quốc’s most famous export: high-quality fish sauce, known as nuoc mam.

Beachgoers can delight in spending lazy days on the sand, or taking slow strolls along the shoreline. Long Beach is a favourite, whilst Sao Beach — on the island’s southern tip — has a reputation as one of Asia’s most spectacular. Head inland for jungle and waterfall hikes, birdwatching and mountain biking in the Phú Quốc National Park. Evenings are for savouring delectable seafood specialities at the night market, in the heart of Duong Dong Town, or catching stunning sunsets from your perch at one of the best places to stay in Phú Quốc.
