Laid-back St Kilda may not be Melbourne's most central neighbourhood, but it does have the beach, and is well connected to the CBD by tram. It's the perfect area for anyone who likes easy access to the beach and watersports and a lively evening out, but doesn't want to trek in to the centre of town. There are plenty of pubs and music venues here, and the best bit is that it's excellent value too. We have only unearthed one great hotel here, but you can always look at our full list of recommendations for Melbourne for further inspiration.
