Hotel Review
Set in a mature coconut plantation and meaning ‘place of peace’ it has a real economy of design. It’s minimal and it’s luxury in an expansive sphere. The pavilions and privately-owned villas are inspired by Thailand’s former capital Ayuthia. They are decked in the golden brown wood 'makha' and in teak. The lighter wood in the roof tiers give it depth and breathing space from a distance. The design, embraces authentically the Thai tradition and is timeless and serene. There is intelligent spacing between the restaurants and swimming pool. The sloping location is enhanced with cascading stairs and raised steps. It descends from the pool to the private beach like a stage setting form Aida. The open lobby is reassuringly welcoming. There’s a nautical feel in the rooms from all the varnished wood. This runs consistently onto the wonderful outdoor ‘sala’ sun deck. The airy poolside restaurants offer delicious menus that vary in spicy intensity. The tea-time pancakes are particularly tasty. The music at night is authentic and ambient using the traditional wooden 'kim' instrument. Guests arrive to a fragrant heart-shaped frangipani bracelet. To top it all the amazing airport staff on hand deal with all practicalities to delay the return to self-reliance.
