Hotel review

Bougainvillea and geraniums splash colour across the Leto's calm, cool courtyard, beneath the tall, whitewashed walls and dove-grey shutters of a classic Hydriot shipowner's mansion. The Sofianous family have spent a lot of time, money and attention to detail turning it into a hotel that has been setting standards for other Hydra properties to match since 1965. Not that Leto shows her age. Au contraire, sleekly up to date facilities complement cool elegance here. Apivita toiletries sit by glass basins in marble bathrooms, spacious parquet-floored rooms (some with views inland) have big beds, classic (but unfussy) furnishings and Nespresso machines. Local products – yoghurt, honey, fresh juices – accentuate American-style buffet breakfast, served in the tree-shaded courtyard until 11am. There's a cosy lounge with a fireplace for cooler spring and autumn evenings. Leto is also more family-friendly than some rivals, with inter-connecting family rooms and babysitter and child-minder on request. Other stand-out facilities include a spacious, customised wheelchair-accessible suite. rooms and public spaces. All in all, there's a lot of value for your money here.
