Hotel Review

A chalet holiday is all about comfort and luxury on the slopes, but Marc Veryat's La Maison des Bois creates a new definition for skiing in style. Drawing on his family's legacy in the Manigod region, he has crafted a fresh vision for contemporary chalet living, with unique interior design drawing on the area's local materials, from cavernous stone bathroom basins to rich, wood-panelled cabins. There are great options here for families and couples alike; the cosy 'cocoon' rooms have a warm and welcoming feel, perfect for a romantic holiday, while the spacious chalets with fireplaces in the living room are perfect for warming up after a day on the slopes. Maison des Bois is set apart from other ski hotels by its commitment to sustainability and the environment; the food in the restaurant is seasonal and sourced from Marc Veryat's botanical garden on-site, and a mighty eighty-per cent of the hotel's operations are self-sufficient. Cooking classes and plant gathering activities offer the opportunity to go beyond the usual chalet experience and get to grips with the fantastic flavours of the hotel restaurant. For rest days, there are no shortage of treatments available at the stylish and contemporary spa. The clever design brings the outside in, with views from the pool onto the mountain. A glorious and unique alpine escape.

La Maison des Bois

This simple wooden chalet sitting high up in the Alps is a temple to mountain gastronomy. Under the restaurant roof are cows and hens that provide the breakfast yogurt and poached eggs with black truffles, making it surely one of the most original members of the prestigious Relais & Chateaux group.
