On the old pilgrim route to Compostella and with a 13th century tower looming in the distance, lies Le Castel Pierre. A renovated chateau comprising of 3 suites and 4 double rooms, it stands in the heart of the wine-growing region of Gers and is surrounded by fields of vineyards that seemingly roll on forever into the horizon. The rooms themselves are elegant and spacious, with parquet flooring, cool marble tiles and a mix of both rustic and contemporary furniture. They all come with a flatscreen TV, wifi, A/C and a hairdryer, and all come with bathrooms. The facilities of the hotel are bountiful: there is a sauna and Jacuzzi, swimming pool, library and a TV lounge area coupled with a bar. The gardens are vast and acutely maintained and there are many secluded, shaded spots in which you can lose yourself with a good book. Wine-tasting and beauty treatments can be organised through the hotel. The local area is drenched in history: the hotel is not far from the fortified medieval village of Lorressingle (12km) and is well worth seeing, for it seems almost to be encased in a time warp. The Gallo-Roman villa at Seviac is a mere 7km away and there is an 18-hole golf course 10km away.
