“This chic beachfront hotel overlooks the dramatic Atlantic coast. Bright rooms are dressed in earthy tones with natural accents; the best have a balcony with sea views. The hotel boasts a newly renovated pool, spa and restaurant, plus a fun children's play area. A fresh look for this seaside hotel.”

Hotel review

Originally built in the 1960s as a hip hideout for surfers, Memmo Baleeira was first refurbished in 2010 as a minimalist seaside haven. This year the hoteliers have unveiled a further facelift, bringing natural elements into the design concept with a palette of sandy colours, clusters of foliage and fresh, signature design pieces. The inspiration from nature threads through the hotel's new look; the ocean takes centre stage in the first floor Fornaria Memmo restaurant, with spectacular views across the coast from the restaurant's expansive windows. The rattan sofas and designer ceramics combine to create a sense of barefoot luxury, while the menu focuses on fresh, simple seafood dishes. The revamped pool area now boasts a pretty poolside bar, decking and lounge chairs. The hotel's original surf-loving clientele will be particularly pleased with the addition of a surfboard store and rental; the creation of a bike station broadens the appeal to cycling enthusiasts. Meanwhile, the hotel now features a climbing wall and play area for children, which parents will love. In the newly enhanced spa or 'wellness area', guests can enjoy use of an indoor pool, sauna and Turkish bath. There also a spacious gym for active holidaymakers. This ambitious renovation clearly shows a hotel that refuses to be content with being 'good enough'; with first-class facilities catering to all types of visitors, these hoteliers have certainly raised the bar.
