Two words sum up this Palazzo: Drama and Sophistication. Whether you are a Hollywood star (and yes, they do stay here) stepping off your Riva speedboat DIRECTLY into your luxury suite, or a lesser mortal arriving at reception via the narrowest and darkest of Venetian alleyways, this place will wow you. A green front door at the far end of the alley buzzes open as you approach to reveal a gleaming world of black and red Art Deco. Sit and gaze at the mesmerizing 24 hour activity on the Grand Canal from the balcony in the funky bar and breakfast area (note the balcony is reserved for the presidential suite if occupied…), or enjoy the same view from the privacy of your own bedroom. All the rooms have water views. Although dark, the bedrooms and bathrooms are elegantly designed and clutter free which is a good antidote to the city. Every room features a giant (at least twice life-size) black framed mirror so there is no chance of emerging looking scruffy. A hint of the historic Palazzo exists in the library which retains its original and beautiful painted wooden ceiling, dating back to 1500. Service is discreet and professional. Breakfast a la carte. The closest vaporetto stop is Santa Toma. Recommended for a seriously smart and romantic mini-break.
