EVERYTHING BUT THE GIRL: ALL-INCLUSIVE HOTELS

Though recently refurbished, the 22 stone cottages that scatter the 113-acre island owe something to the aesthetics of the era in which they were built. They are simple structures of local blue-bitch stone quarried on the island and purpleheart wood, with cane furniture, rush mats and practically no mod cons: no plunge pool (no swimming pool, even), no keys, telephones or televisions, no air con and a patchy mobile-phone signal that seems to depend on the wind. If you want to order room service, you hoist a flag. The selling point here is privacy, seclusion, space and a rather alluring sense of going back to a time when life was simpler.
