Portland has long had a reputation of being sophisticated, foodie and generally just pretty cool- so it is very fitting that Pomegranate Inn sits here in the well preserved Victorian Western Promenade neighbourhood. It is head and shoulders above its more reserved neighbours, with a fabulously eclectic interiors style and a joie de vivre attitude. Guests here can expect hand-painted wall murals, Noguchi coffee tables, fabulous Chinese antiques, fine silks and matelassé linens. The breakfast is a series of small plates that never cease to impress with their inventive fresh and versatile flavours. We loved how in love with the inn the staff are- always a good sign!

"Not surprisingly, each of the eight guest rooms has a personality of its own, but expect fine silk and matelassé linens, period antiques, private baths, and cut blooms in all."

"And in sophisticated Portland, where we began and ended our trip, we picked the spiffy Pomegranate Inn, where the walls are hand-painted in Matisse-like swirls of color and the furnishings are wonderfully offbeat."
