“5* designer hotel in quiet suburb of city. Eclectic interiors have eye-catching lighting features, white furnishings and quirky bathrooms, with floor to ceiling windows. Outdoor pool, spa, sauna and gym. Fusion Mediterranean cuisine in chic restaurant, buzzy bar lounge. Colourful, modern and unique.”

Hotel review

A dreamlike and sensual experience awaits you at the Hotel Semiramis – it is like stepping inside an amorphous multi-coloured neon pod. Fun! There is not a straight line or pale surface to be seen, just curving Zaha-style shapes and zingy lollipop colours. You find your way to the rooms, restaurants and different levels via a series of colour coded hieroglyphics. An accompanying book of stickers is provided at check in with which to ‘sign’ your bills. A programmable electronic messaging system is sunk into the threshold of each bedroom – certainly a change from the usual ‘do not disturb’ door tags. This is a totally different take on a business hotel, but an equally great base for a cultural visit to Athens. Located in the affluent and leafy suburb of Kiffisia, surrounded by high-end boutiques and bars, it is an easy 40 minute train/metro ride into ancient Athens and all the wonders of the Acropolis. Less than 30 minutes by taxi to the airport. Semiramis is part of the new and edgy Design Hotel stable. It may be mad, kitsch and eye-popping, but all the essentials are provided to a very high level and there is an engaging and professional team of staff. Interesting artwork too.
