Sixty spacious rooms in attractive four-room blocks wrap around the hillside amid tropical plants. All have fantastic sea views and spacious verandahs and some come with private plunge pools. The rooms have marble floors, quality dark wood furniture and large beds draped with mosquito nets. You can choose whether to opt for B&B or all-inclusive and if you choose the latter you can get a stocked mini bar in your room. The food is excellent with hearty breakfast options such as steak and eggs or healthy fruit platters. The Sugar Club bar has a trendy Miami feel and the bistro here serves fusion fare, while the elevated Carmichael’s restaurant, with its own infinity pool, is the place for Sunday barbecues or romantic sunset dinners. Book onto an early morning hike to Mount Obama (still known locally as Boggy Peak), the highest point in the island, or enjoy a yoga or Pilates class on the deck. An Aveda spa and a full-size fitness centre are situated close to the main pool. A shuttle runs to nearby beaches several times a day and you can get a lift up to your room if you are tired at the end of the day.
