This hotel is as stylishly funky as its name. A former convent, and tucked away up what was once the main route to the town’s magnificent castle (still the home of the Duke and Duchess of Northumberland), it’s been converted to 11 bedrooms in a chic country-house style. Tricked out in bold shades of Delft blue and cream, with stripped-wood floors, tongue-and-groove panelling, leather armchairs and attractive pieces of glass and pottery, it has all the traditional comforts but without the fussiness. Some bedrooms overlook the castle, others have cosy sloping ceilings while all have sharply modern bathrooms. The dining-room, with its full-on blue-and-white colour scheme and framed collections of cutlery, is a dazzling delight for breakfast - the sort of place you want to linger - though evening meals (only two to three nights a week) are pricey and with limited choice. Simple lunches and afternoon teas are also offered; if the sun is shining enjoy them in the large terraced garden. And, of course, there are home-made cookies for a treat before bed. (The hotel’s name? Simple: the owner is called Cook.)

We offer a wide selection for breakfast- from our lovingly homemade Granola, traditional Full English, and contemporary crushed avocado and poached egg- there is something to suit everyone. Do you offer other meals? And can you recommend good places to eat out locally? Our Bistro is open daily serving fresh Northumbrian goodness. Every Friday and Saturday our Bistro opens in the evening, to serve the very best seasonal produce. The most sought after room is our Suite, The Chapel. The building has deep historic roots and was once an Order of Mercy Convent. The Chapel features original stain glass windows, a copper roll-top bath and an impressive domed ceiling. Our Mother Superiors are also popular for their stunning views across to Alnwick Castle.
