Hotel Review
Smart bustling village pub owned by the Devonshire’s, patronised by the locals and genteel visitors ‘doing’ the stately house tour. After a hearty breakfast guests can strike out in walking boots through the park to Chatsworth. The original old part of the pub with stone floors and beams contrasts well with the new contemporary glass sided brasserie. A gurgling stream runs down the side of the building. Striking artwork on the walls includes botanical watercolours by the Duke’s sister. The Duchess was much involved in choosing fabrics and the design of the eighteen chic, well-equipped bedrooms, some in an adjacent house.

Why do people love staying in your hotel? Great location, food & drink, relaxed atmosphere, open fires, friendly staff. What is there to do in the area or on site? Walks start from the door in all directions, Chatsworth is 3 miles away, we also have Haddon Hall which is a little gem, there are ample walks a short drive too. What kind of breakfast do you offer? A continental style, with the option of porridge, poached haddock, boiled eggs or a full cooked breakfast Do you offer other meals? And can you recommend good places to eat out locally? We serve lunch and dinner as well every day, with specials. Staff are always on hand to recommend other places should guests wish to eat elsewhere. Which are your most popular room types, and why? The beauty of our rooms are they are all individually decorated so each has its own pull, and in different locations, therefore we have people who prefer the 4 rooms in the pub, we also have 4 rooms that accommodate dogs in the adjacent building. The most recent addition to the rooms is 6 across the road, which have been finished to a very high standard without losing the traditional feel. What message would you like to give Hotel Guru readers? We are a little gem of a pub set in an idyllic village location, there is plenty to keep you occupied on the doorstep, alternatively with the bar open all day relax with a book and glass of wine and forget about the outside world.
