Hotel Review

The Double Red Duke is hands down one of the best gastropubs with rooms in the UK. This wisteria-clad boutique hotel in the Cotswolds is from stylish hoteliers Sam and Georgie Pearman of Country Creatures. The devil is in the detail at this 16th-century coaching inn whose rooms feature charming antiques, modern light fittings, homemade cookies, 100 Acre products and crisp cotton bedlinen. Rooms are spread across the house and the courtyard depending on whether you have a dog or are travelling en famille (family rooms can easily accommodate a group of four). All of the individually designed rooms are homely with large bathrooms, some with rolltop baths, others with double showers and bright and beautiful floor tiles.

Named after a character from local folklore, this picturesque property in the village of Clanfield welcomes you with cosy log fires, a great modern British menu and a garden with terrace for alfresco dining during the warmer months. The atmosphere is friendly and relaxed with cosy corners and sitting rooms decorated with leather club chairs, comfy sofas, burnt velvets and vintage fabrics. The charming General Manager Sion, has been here since the opening and is very much involved with every aspect of the business and on hand for any insider tips and recommendations.

The combination of talented chefs and local, seasonal produce results in a mouth-watering menu with daily specials including some great British favourites. The team work with only the very best suppliers (bread and pastries comes from Blakes bakery a short walk away) and the chefs cook over fire and glowing embers (no gas ovens here!). Book a seat at the chef's bar/table and watch the magic happen. There are three dining areas to choose from; cosy up by the fire, prop up the bar with your pooch or head to the bright and light garden room with its open fire place for all-day dining. There's a great kids menu and The Double Red Duke has some of the most stylish high chairs you'll come across — take note owner Georgie has a knack of sourcing items you'll want to take home with you! One of the best places to stay in the Cotswolds with the perfect breakfast. Hard one to beat on every level.
